Technically this solution is implemented as a JIRA plugin. You install the plugin and then you can disable unused accounts and instruct first time users to use the “forgot password” functionality. That’s it.

Security aspect. In order to prevent auto enabling of any disabled account, the user should be explicitly placed in group ‘auto-enable’. This will prevent automatic enabling of ex-employees or otherwise disabled old JIRA accounts that shall not be enabled.

Quality Requirements for Agile Projects

Let us start with processes.

Software companies need to be compliant with various standards, for example, standard for quality management systems. This implies that different processes are put in place to fulfill standard requirements. Processes regulate most important aspects of the software development lifecycle – requirement collection, design, development, testing, deployments, etc. This gives us a feeling that this will guarantee quality of the final product. And actually it is as much promising as waterfall approach itself. For waterfall approach projects this more or less works.

Agile

But how shall organization implement quality management requirements for agile development approach? First idea – we must implement an agile process. However this is a bad idea and it will not work, because agile is different in its fundaments. I completely agree, that agile is not a process. Agile is a set of practices, a mindset and an environment that stimulates creativity and unleashing of all potential.
How should quality system respond to this paradigm change?

How shall quality management requirements be fulfilled, yet maintaining creative and agile environment?

Quality management system (QMS) shall facilitate and promote usage of agile practices. As quality management system is the right source of how things should be done, then, of course QMS shall refer and promote these practices. When someone addresses QMS for advice, these practices shall be found there.

QMS shall define requirements what general software engineering practices shall be present in every project – scope management, requirements management, risk management, quality management, etc. Projects then shall map which practices they use to fulfill these requirements. For example, extensive unit testing plus proper automated regression tests, plus continuous integration practices shall be sufficient for quality control requirements.
When auditing projects, quality auditors shall apprize use of pure agile techniques in agile projects. Although traditional, old school techniques could be acceptable, agile practices shall prevail. For example, usage of agile estimation techniques (e.g. estimation poker) shall be evaluated higher than classical waterfall estimation techniques. Another example would be documenting the requirements – user stories are preferred over waterfall-style requirement specifications. Even more, waterfall-style requirement specifications or estimation techniques can be dangerous for agile projects, as agile project organization doesn’t provide desired attention to them.
